Barclays Bank of Ghana has organized an E-zwich training programme for about 105 "Susu" collectors in Accra to introduce them to the use and advantages of the biometric smart card introduced by the Central Bank recently.

Nana Dwumor Benneh, Director of Consumer Banking for Barclays Ghana said the training was part of a series by the bank to sharpen the skills and build the capacity of "Susu" collectors, who were members of the bank's micro-banking programme.

"Barclays is committed to helping 'Susu' collectors to improve upon the conduct of their activities through the use of E-Zwich and enhance their businesses," Nana Benneh said.

Mr Elvis Aboagye-Manu, President of the Ghana Cooperative Susu Collectors Association, thanked Barclays for its continuous support. He said the training programme was an eye-opener and urged members to apply the principles they had learnt very well when E-zwich became fully operational.

A similar training programme is expected to be held for the over 700 "Susu" collectors of the Barclays Micro-banking programme across the country.

Barclays said it was committed to increasing the number of "Susu" collectors it worked with to 1,500 by close of the year.
